The Blandford Elementary community came together for a beautiful school-wide ceremony celebrating Earth Day and the dedication of a new garden in memory of Blandford student Aidan Tam. Principal Mercedes Lovie shared during the ceremony:
“Today we come together to share hope for our planet and environment. As we dedicate our garden, we want to remember Aidan Tam. Aidan was a student at Blandford who had an accident as he crossed the street last year. He was hurt and died. His parents are with us today and want us all to remember Aiden’s love of plants and gardening. Many people came together to make the garden a reality. The building services department of RUSD, led by Danny Romo and Stewart Moe provided the design and labor for the hardscape. The Rowland Water District provided grant money. Students planted, and the Tam family donated the bench for the garden, the Blandford teachers donated items for the garden, and the Second grade team who lead the entire effort to have a garden built for Aidan should all be commended. In acting together to build a garden, we show that we respect our beautiful Planet Earth and remember Aidan.”
